Description
Bring some friends and learn how to make lampshades
In this 3-hour workshop for a group of four people we will guide you through the process of making a lampshade from scratch, using your own individual fabric. You will learn the skills needed to create a professionally finished lampshade - no prior experience required.
Make and take home a 20cm diameter x 23cm high drum lamp shade. Extra lampshade making materials will be available for purchase on the day.
Spend the morning learning lampshade making with a small group of like-minded people. You will be taken through the process step by step with hands-on support from your teacher.
Learn how to prepare your fabric and take measurement of your lampshade frame correctly. Explore the techniques for applying your fabric to the lampshade backing and how to attach that panel to the rings in a way that achieves a professional, long-lasting result. And practice finishing off your lampshade with a clean and tidy seam.
We supply all materials and tools on the day (except for fabric). All you need to do is show up with your piece of fabric and enjoy a morning filled with creativity and laughter, cups of tea and the pleasure of learning a new skill.
Book in for a private group workshop today and enjoy a creative morning or afternoon at our studio in Killcare. It is a fun birthday activity with friends.
What's included
Included in the price is our 20cm 3Chooks Lampshade Making Kit (RRP $59.95) and access to the tools you need to create your masterpiece plus personal instruction.
You will make and take home a 20cm diameter x 23cm heigh cylinder lampshade – perfect for a bedside table, phone table or side table lamp in your lounge. Extra take home supplies will be available for purchase.
Workshops at our Killcare studio also include some morning tea snacks, lots of cups of tea and some sweet treats. The group workshop booking is limited to 4 people so you have plenty of space to create and ample opportunity to ask questions. If you'd like to sneak in a fifth person, we can accommodate for that. There will be an extra charge - please get in touch prior to booking.
What to bring
For a very personal result bring along your choice of fabric, about 70cm wide x 30cm high as a minimum. For larger prints, you may want to bring along a larger piece of fabric to select the best part of the pattern to fit your shade.
Quilting-weight cotton works best for learners, not too thin and not too thick. For the workshop, stay away from fabrics that fray easily or are too heavy and stiff. We prefer working with natural fibres for a soft texture. It is recommended to use a light to mid weight cotton so you can enjoy learning the lampshade making process.
