This is the day for you! Give your crockery a new lease on life as a beautiful birdbath.

The gorgeous and vibrant Katie Street will take us through the process. It will be messy, it will be fun and at the end of the day you will have a gorgeous new garden ornament to show off!

A light lunch will be provided along with cups of tea and sweet treats. Please advise if you have any dietary requirements.

Who

About the artist: KATIE STREET
Based in Armidale, I'm largely a self-taught creative, though I studied 3 Unit Visual Arts at senior school in drawing and photography and continue to attend art workshops regularly when I can.  I have recently made the move from full time to part time work as an Occupational Therapist to spend more time creating and making art. My work consists of several mediums and I’m always dabbling in something new to keep my creativity on its toes.

As a child I was always drawing and it is probably the skill that still comes most naturally to me. I mainly draw and paint still life imagery and dabble in landscapes. When I lived in Melbourne I attended oil painting classes but now tend to paint in acrylics as I’m far too impatient to wait for the oils to dry! I attended an Art Workshops Australia course at Fowler’s Gap in 2018 where I started painting with gouache.

I learned how to do random basketry weaving with rattan cane at a workshop approximately 7 years ago and fell in love with it straight away. I continue to weave sculptural baskets and make wall hangings with cane and wild-crafted natural fibres, but also work a lot with various types of wire which brings a different element to the finished product.

A friend invited me to do some mosaicing a couple of years ago and I’ve had such fun with this medium ever since. I love that you can take very dated crockery or your favourite plates that have chips in them, and give them a new lease on life in a mosaiced bird bath or a pot. The process is fun, messy, loud at times, and there is also something cathartic about breaking plates!

I’ve exhibited works in two joint exhibitions at Walcha Gallery of Art, and one at the NSW Rural Women’s Gathering in Walcha with my works consisting of acrylic, gouache & oil paintings, graphite and soft pastel drawings, wire sculptures, random basketry and hidden core weavings.

I'm looking forward to having some fun with you in Killcare!
